About 1 in 8 U.S. women (12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In July of 2020, I (Coach C) became the 1 in 8 diagnosed. Hearing the words, “You have cancer,” can be daunting in any language.  Seeing the medical bills can be even worse. To date, with insurance, I owe close to $8,000 in medical expenses.

 

After sharing my story, two of my social media friends reached out to me and said they were going through a similar situation, and their medical bills were upwards of $20,000 due to excessive rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. I believe that people should not have to choose between quality of care and excessive debt. However, many people within our community have to make that choice when diagnosed with breast cancer.

 

The Breast Cancer Relief Fund was created to help remove the financial barrier some individuals may face while on their journey to recovery.
